High-entropy transparent ceramics with photoluminescent properties

Lector: doc. Ing. Daniel Drdlík, Ph.D.

Institution: Brno University of Technology, CEITEC VUT

Field: Advanced Materials and Nanosciences

About the project

This project aims to develop new ceramic materials for advanced applications in photonics. Specifically, it focuses on so-called high-entropy materials, for which multiple elements can be combined within a single crystal structure, leading to superior properties and enhanced functionality compared to traditionally used materials. The objective is to identify the optimal chemical composition and processing technology to achieve high transparency and photoluminescent properties.

Why science?

I have always enjoyed figuring out how things work around us. What I appreciate about working in science is its diversity, especially the fact that it allows me to combine creativity with analytical thinking and work on interesting projects with inspiring people. I like that through science I can learn every day, develop myself and at the same time push the boundaries of knowledge in my field of research.

What do I like most about Brno

Brno is an ideal city to live in. It offers all the advantages of a big city but keeps its unique (and sometimes slightly quirky) character and friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of opportunities to fulfill yourself, both professionally and in your free time. A special place in my heart belongs to the gastronomy in Brno because you can find good coffee and delicious food literally on every corner.
