Electrosensitive liquids towards adaptive lubrication systems for machine performance improvement

Lector: doc. Ing. Petr Svoboda, Ph.D.

Institution: Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Field: Tribology

About the project

One of the main challenges for industrial lubricants is ensuring sustainability and tunability of their rheological properties. Ionic liquids, used as additives, are a promising candidate. My aim is to provide a comprehensive description of how an electric field influences the mechanism of lubricant film formation as observed in situ. This could pave the way for intelligent lubrication systems that promise to increase the lifetime and efficiency of machinery.

Why science?

For me, being a scientist is more than just a job. I enjoy challenges and solving problems that have no clear solution. I think it's great how science brings people from all over the world together. In addition, in this environment you are constantly exposed to new information, discoveries and methods, and you bring them into your observations of the everyday life. Moreover, in academia, this work goes hand in hand with teaching students, which I find particularly fulfilling.

What do I like most about Brno

Brno is big enough that you can find just about anything you imagine, yet small enough so you never feel like a drop in the ocean.
