Paleoparasitology: An Innovative Tool for Studying the Evolutionary Trajectory of Parasites
Lector: Mgr. Barbora Pafčo, Ph.D.
Institution: Masaryk University, Faculty of Science
Field: Ecological and Evolutionary Biology
About the project
My project focuses on developing advanced metagenomic tools to analyze environmental ancient DNA (aDNA) for precise identification of ancient parasites. By studying soil sediments, we aim to trace the origins and evolution of infectious diseases, offering valuable insights into the health of past human populations. These findings will not only enhance our understanding of parasite epidemiology but also contribute to preventing future outbreaks and improving strategies for infection control.
Why science?
Science provides me with endless opportunities for personal growth and meaningful contributions to progress. Unlike conventional jobs that often stifle creativity and limit potential, science fosters innovation and opens the door to boundless possibilities. It allows me to actively shape and drive the advancement of our ever-evolving world.
What do I like most about Brno
Brno holds a special place in my heart. As a dynamic university hub, it is not only a center of education and research but also a lively metropolis, where rich history harmoniously merges with the energy of the modern world.
