Evolutionary consequences of chromosomal holocentrism
Lector: Prof. RNDr. Petr Bureš, Ph.D.
Institution: Masaryk University, Faculty of Science
Field: Ecological and Evolutionary Biology
About the project
Holocentric chromosomes are much rarer than monocentric. Nevertheless, they have several substantial evolutionary consequences associated with the tolerance of chromosomal fragmentation. Here I will uncover the meaning of their existence using molecular and microscopic techniques combined with genome size databases, distribution, and ecology of monocentric and holocentric species.
Why science?
I am an enquiring person who observes nature law but also searches and discovers the minor exceptions that make the rule.
What do I like most about Brno
I fell in love with Brno during my first visit, Open Day at Masaryk University. I enjoy its friendly attitude towards students and the opportunity to meet friends in sports and culture in the historical center or nearby nature.
