Tunable flat optics

About the project
Flat optics represent a new development in optics, where multiple bulk optical components can be replaced by one nanostructured ultrathin surface, called metasurface. Combined with phase-change materials, which can alter optical properties after fabrication, metasurfaces can be upgraded into tunable optical components. The main goal of this project is to fabricate a tunable metasurface made of the phase-change material vanadium dioxide and explore its tuning capabilities.
Why science?
First, I am interested in science because it fascinates me to know how things around me work. This way, I can appreciate and enjoy them more. And I practice science because being part of a group of people that discover, understand and utilize these things is very satisfying and rewarding.
What do I like most about Brno
Despite being the second largest in the Czech Republic, Brno feels like a smaller city, offering many career opportunities in modern technology and research on the one hand and vibrant cultural life on the other.
