Smart liposomal nanoconstructs taking control over the principles of nanomedicine
Lector: Dr. Zbyněk Heger
Institution: Mendel University in Brno, Faculty of AgriSciences
Field: Chemistry
About the project
The project is aimed at fusion of RNA-based therapy knowledge and nanoparticle-based targeted drug delivery in order to assemble smart liposomal nanoconstructs possessing advantageous biological and physicochemical characteristics. Such nanoconstructs will be employed not only for cancer but also treatment of chronic hepatitis B as well as contrast imaging agents for theranostics and monitoring of their pharmacokinetics.
Why science?
My goal is to establish an equal and sustainable collaboration between Czech and Austrian research where I would push for mutual bringing innovations and new iniciatives. This will create a reciprocal support between the two countries, thus originating the significant entity in Central Europe as an essential counterballance to the Western powers, regarding science and research. Furthermore I want to pass the acquired knowledge on to the next generations that will be building a new future.
What do I like most about Brno
Although I have never had a personal relation to Brno, I am very pleased that Brno is considered the fastest developing city in the Czech Republic and, thus, becomes the most important centre of science, research and advanced technologies (especially IT and telecommunications) in the country. This makes it competitive in these branches even on a global scale.
